Take me to the pilot

Posted on January 20, 2009 by David

Happy new year! Happy Oshtraya Day! I realised I’ve been lucky enough to work on a lot of animated TV pilots lately, so I thought I’d write a bit about how they’ve worked and what happened with them. When I don’t name names it’s because the work isn’t out in public yet and confidentiality applies….

MIPCOM: wrap up, fun stuff

Posted on November 13, 2008November 13, 2008 by David

First of all, thanks to Aaron at Cold Hard Flash for for whacking our pilot up there! It’s much appreciated. And as I said on the front of nakedfella.com, check out Rove this Sunday for a bit of animated fun from BigKidz. Sounds like my stupid side jokes even made it in! MIPCOM is pretty…

A little more about MIPCOM why not?

Posted on October 23, 2008 by David

I’m currently in Toronto, the city with many nicknames. They call it T.O. They call it T-Dawg. They call it T-Ball. I just call it “the city with delicious hot dogs on every street corner”, and bless them for that. Would probably be better to wait til I can get some pics up or whatever,…

Too many free drinks?

Posted on October 17, 2008 by David

No, I haven’t been indulging in free drinks at MIPCOM. I’ve been eating free food. Reviews of this food will follow one of these days when I have more time at the internet cafe terminal and I don’t have to poo so bad. MY VERY QUICK MIPCOM REPORT: 1. Not having anything to compare it…

We’ve tried to test them out a little bit, but apologies if one or more of them don’t…

Countdown: ten days to MIPCOM

Posted on October 1, 2008 by David

I’m starting to get hyped/nervous about this trip. We’ve got meetings with some foreign broadcasters and fun-looking animation studios, which is great. I was kind of freaking out that nobody would want to talk to us over there and I’d quit my job for nothing. Now I can swing back to my regular overconfidence. I…

David Blumenstein

I’m a service designer, cartoonist and co-founder of Squishface Studio. I’ve done comics for The Guardian, Crikey and Australian MAD. Currently also deputy president of the Australian Cartoonists Association.

I usually write about things that shit me off, from bad bosses (The Bret Braddock Adventures) to pick-up artists (#takedown) to white supremacist trolls (The Internet’s Most Trolled Cartoonist) to predatory cults (Why Los Angeles is Scientology’s perfect city) and nasty tech bros (Octane Render: Cartoonists talk about A.I. art).

I’m working on graphic novels called Sciensatics (about cultists) and Free Money, Please (about wealth and passive income).

Sarah Howell

I regularly collaborate with my wife, Sarah Howell.
