Recording Session 02

Posted on January 27, 2007January 27, 2007 by David

Thursday night found myself and Mr Thomas Pullar making with the voice recording in the fabulous AIM sound studio. Thomas tried out a couple of characters, and having listened back to the results, I feel pretty confident he can voice them both and probably more besides. The next challenge is to get him together with…

What is The Precinct? — part four: meet my rack

Posted on January 12, 2007January 12, 2007 by David

It’s important The Precinct have a distinctively rocking sound, and for that I’m relying largely on my recently acquired collection of budget ’80s synthesizers and keyboards, the idea being that capturing the special timbre of my beloved cheap cop movies will somehow channel their spirit into the sky above New York City and open the…

What is The Precinct? — part three: a treasury of cop movie reviews

Posted on December 30, 2006 by David

Lately I’ve been spending my Christmas holiday time (a.k.a. “sparse employment”, a.k.a. “between contracts”, a.k.a. “freelancing”) working on personal projects such as The Precinct and watching inspirational films/TV. Aside from having bought season one of Columbo and The Shield on DVD, I’ve also bought up thirty or forty cop movies for a dollar each from…

Recording Session 01

Posted on December 21, 2006February 8, 2007 by David

On Thursday last week we had our first actual recording session. Previously myself and longtime pal Adam Wajnberg recorded a temp dialogue track at my place and I put that over the animatic (a rough pose-to-pose version of the episode). Watching this back did not fill me with confidence, because we’d talked weird and made…

What is The Precinct? — part one: character design development

Posted on December 9, 2006December 9, 2006 by David

The Precinct came from a fairly stupid idea I had about making a live-action cop series that was supposed to be from Europe and “dubbed” into English. It would be unclear as to whether the cops were actually cops or just weird guys who liked dressing like them and running down alleyways. And they would…

David Blumenstein

I’m a service designer, cartoonist and co-founder of Squishface Studio. I’ve done comics for The Guardian, Crikey and Australian MAD. Currently also deputy president of the Australian Cartoonists Association.

I usually write about things that shit me off, from bad bosses (The Bret Braddock Adventures) to pick-up artists (#takedown) to white supremacist trolls (The Internet’s Most Trolled Cartoonist) to predatory cults (Why Los Angeles is Scientology’s perfect city) and nasty tech bros (Octane Render: Cartoonists talk about A.I. art).

I’m working on graphic novels called Sciensatics (about cultists) and Free Money, Please (about wealth and passive income).

I regularly collaborate with my wife, Sarah Howell.
