… he updates his blog again.
Since I last posted, I’ve finished a lot of things, notably
- The Bedroom Philosopher‘s music video. The Happiest Boy was done in September and has aired on Rage and Channel V. See it here.
- Nakedfella Comics #9 is my brand new 56-page comic book, self-published as always. Launched at TINA in October, it’s got four years worth of cartoonist passion, and a cover that feels weird. E-mail me for a copy, or wait ’til I get copies into some stores in Melbourne.
- The animatic for The Precinct, episode one.
Is it really finished? It’s as finished as it’s going to get. I could fiddle for years, and I did. It doesn’t feel perfect, but that will come with animation and sound.
So what has happened with The Precinct in the last six months? Detail is boring and I’ve forgotten anyway, so here are more bullet points:
- In June, animator and generally nice chap Peter Allen suggested I pitch The Precinct at a “90 second pitch contest” Film Victoria was doing at a fashionable Melbourne bar. There were a lot more people there than I had expected, but the event was also an announcement about additional film funding initiatives, so I guess every filmmaker in Melbourne who wants free money was there. I wrote a little pitch on the train into town and was very happy, firstly when the audience laughed (I expected they’d be more reserved) and secondly when I actually won. I rarely win anything, so it was a nice little confidence boost.
- Following my prize presentation (a sack of Australian films from Madman Entertainment, most of which feature David Wenham), some friendly people approached me with business cards, and all of a sudden it started feeling kinda Hollywood in there. The result of this was that The Precinct production team now includes Woody The Producer, whose magical powers include the incredible “getting money out of people for quality entertainment”.
- In between hacking away at the wonderful mountain of work I’ve had on, I finished off that animatic, which made its way to the Screen Producers Association of Australia conference in Woody’s hot little hands. Reportedly it was laughed at (in a good way) and interested some Canadian companies such that I’m wondering how hard it might be to get Corey Hart and Matt Frewer to join the cast.
And that’s what’s new!
