Odd man out (The Age)

Posted on March 1, 2011 by David

I got a nice little plug in The Age‘s youth liftout yesterday, along with a bunch of proper book illustrators (I have illustrated a few books, but I haven’t got as much of that kind of work as I’d like). Thanks, The Age!

Get An Animated Christmas Card From Nakedfella Productions For $500

Posted on November 17, 2010November 18, 2010 by David

It’s the end of the year, which can be a slow period for freelance animators like me. So I thought I’d offer to make your company’s animated Christmas card for only $500. I like making funny cartoons cheaply. Would you like one, made just for you, to send to customers/clients, wishing them a happy holiday…

“Sciensatics” in the new Going Down Swinging

Posted on October 17, 2010October 17, 2010 by David

I forgot to mention at a useful or appropriate time that I’ve got a comic in the recently released issue (#30) of the venerable Aussie literary journal Going Down Swinging! It’s called Sciensatics, and it’s a somewhat freeform gag on various interesting cult-type “religions”. I’m only posting about it now because the mag got reviewed…

Thanks, movements, non-clarifications!

Posted on May 23, 2010May 23, 2010 by David

This is reposted from the John Howard’s Knees Fundbreak page… Big thanks to those who’ve chucked in for “John Howard’s Knees”, and just as much thanks go to those who’ve re-tweeted, reposted and just generally whored this page around! Personally, I reckon spreading the word is at least as helpful to the film as putting…

John Howard’s Knees: seeking preorders!

Posted on May 16, 2010June 20, 2010 by David

So I hooked up with the folks at Fundbreak to set up a bit of a crowdfunding experiment. John Howard’s Knees – the case for. from David Blumenstein on Vimeo. I thought it might be interesting to see if we can raise a bit of money for the production of the film by doing what’s…

Comics for all, not just the rich

Posted on January 4, 2010March 31, 2019 by David

Sharp-eyed readers will have noticed that my blog now auto-posts my Tweets. I have no idea if this is annoying or useful, but since it keeps the blog current, I’m in favour of it. I minimise the number of tweets, keep them reasonably on-topic (cop movies, Farnsy, etc) and don’t reply to others much, so…

David Blumenstein

I’m a service designer, cartoonist and co-founder of Squishface Studio. I’ve done comics for The Guardian, Crikey and Australian MAD. Currently also deputy president of the Australian Cartoonists Association.

I usually write about things that shit me off, from bad bosses (The Bret Braddock Adventures) to pick-up artists (#takedown) to white supremacist trolls (The Internet’s Most Trolled Cartoonist) to predatory cults (Why Los Angeles is Scientology’s perfect city) and nasty tech bros (Octane Render: Cartoonists talk about A.I. art).

I’m working on graphic novels called Sciensatics (about cultists) and Free Money, Please (about wealth and passive income).

Sarah Howell

I regularly collaborate with my wife, Sarah Howell.
