So I hooked up with the folks at Fundbreak to set up a bit of a crowdfunding experiment.
John Howard’s Knees – the case for. from David Blumenstein on Vimeo.
I thought it might be interesting to see if we can raise a bit of money for the production of the film by doing what’s basically a preorder system.
I did this when I made DVDs of my film Herman, the Legal Labrador. I took preorders prior to pressing the discs, and got together enough money to cover the cost, which was very helpful considering the amount of time and money I’d blown on the production of the (22 minute) short. Not to mention the expense of the film festival submissions which were to come.
I think the main obstacle to this working is the fact that people have to register as a user of the Fundbreak site to donate (always a pain).
Also, they’re a new site, so they don’t have a built in user base looking at new projects as they appear.
But this is an experiment, so what the hell! If you think you might like to preorder a copy of John Howard’s Knees on a USB stick — or lay down a wodge of green and get your own paid political announcement at the end of the film — visit our project page.
Or maybe you’d like to help us publicise the project? Drop me a line!
