Bret Braddock book launch coming to Melbourne Fringe

Posted on June 19, 2010June 21, 2010 by David

I Tweeted last week about not making it into Fringe in time, but thankfully my very lovely venue, the Bella Union (where we held the Comic Book Funny live shows), made it possible. So now that the forms are in, I can tell you that we’ll launch a collection of my “Bret Braddock” comics at…

Wanted: work pain

Posted on June 2, 2010June 2, 2010 by David

I sat at an arts/crafts fair the other day with Benno Hutcho. I knew I wouldn’t sell many comics there, so, in the spirit of my delightful workplace tragedy “The Bret Braddock Adventures”, I thought instead I’d see if the nice people in attendance had any interesting “bad workplace” stories. One lady told about her…

Least-kept secrets revealed

I do the formerly “anonymous” weekly comic strip located at http://www.docklandsentertainment.com/. You can probably subscribe to it by using this link. I don’t use an RSS reader so I don’t quite know! I’ve plotted out about forty episodes which will form the first “volume”. I’ll compile them into a nice little “book” and will be…

Comic Book Funny, episode #5

Posted on May 26, 2010May 26, 2010 by David

The podcast I do with comics genius Ben Hutchings is back! Normally we talk about comics and other silly things, but the new episode is mostly about the animation industry (which is a very silly thing itself). Here’s the new episode! Download Comic Book Funny Episode #5: Rude On A Boob You can listen to…

All plans and no followthrough makes David edgy

Posted on February 11, 2010 by David

I spent 2009 planning and scheming and writing and talking and thinking. Lots of thinking! This was all good stuff to do, in addition to the freelance work I had. But I did very little MAKING of STUFF! I made a zine of some of my old articles and prose writing and took it to…

Comics for all, not just the rich

Posted on January 4, 2010March 31, 2019 by David

Sharp-eyed readers will have noticed that my blog now auto-posts my Tweets. I have no idea if this is annoying or useful, but since it keeps the blog current, I’m in favour of it. I minimise the number of tweets, keep them reasonably on-topic (cop movies, Farnsy, etc) and don’t reply to others much, so…

David Blumenstein

I’m a service designer, cartoonist and co-founder of Squishface Studio. I’ve done comics for The Guardian, Crikey and Australian MAD. Currently also deputy president of the Australian Cartoonists Association.

I usually write about things that shit me off, from bad bosses (The Bret Braddock Adventures) to pick-up artists (#takedown) to white supremacist trolls (The Internet’s Most Trolled Cartoonist) to predatory cults (Why Los Angeles is Scientology’s perfect city) and nasty tech bros (Octane Render: Cartoonists talk about A.I. art).

I’m working on graphic novels called Sciensatics (about cultists) and Free Money, Please (about wealth and passive income).

Sarah Howell

I regularly collaborate with my wife, Sarah Howell.
