Recording Session 04, Aliens, Rejection

Posted on March 22, 2007March 22, 2007 by David

March 1 we had a very nice Precinct recording session in which Thomas, Kynan and Anna Grace returned to record some lines I’d missed, some new ones and, primarily, to rerecord some stuff in a slightly more “cinema verite” fashion.

Method actors Thomas and Kynan agreed to run on the spot for a good couple minutes while yelping their “chase scene” lines, which worked out nicely. Anna Grace brought a lovely sensual reading to her pricelessly idiotic bedroom scene, and the animatic is therefore knocking firmly into shape.

Also helping is the flaming guitar power Jesse is bringing to the soundtrack. It’s all very well to whop a bunch of synthesizers on there and claim to be Giorgio Moroder, but you just cannot “do” cop action without a hot guitar line. Like how you can’t “do” Jew action without a hot clarinet line. Others say it’s a hot violin line, but whenever I hear a soulful old clarinet I beg to differ. It’s Fiddler on the Roof and Woody Allen, I think.

Aside from The Precinct I’m working on a music video for a track from The Bedroom Philosopher’s forthcoming album. It’s a nice song about being kidnapped by aliens. Here are some screenshots.

The BigKidz extended family have been helping me out with some shots, and from what’s already done I think this is going to come out very nice.

But don’t think everything at Nakedfella Productions is roses!…

Dear David,
Thank you for submitting the above material for assessment. I am afraid that, on this occasion, the preview group was unable to reach a favourable decision.
We are sometimes obliged to turn down quality programs due to budget restrictions and schedule limitations.
Thank you for considering SBS TV.

The blog was getting lots of spams. You didn’t see them because it’s a moderated blog, but I had to delete them all individually. It was a pain.

FYA: The anti-spam word for this post was “pat”.

    TOUGH WORK FOR THA CODEBREAKERS

SBS aren’t a stinkfeast. They just need gentle persuasion.

David Blumenstein

I’m a service designer, cartoonist and co-founder of Squishface Studio. I’ve done comics for The Guardian, Crikey and Australian MAD. Currently also deputy president of the Australian Cartoonists Association.

I usually write about things that shit me off, from bad bosses (The Bret Braddock Adventures) to pick-up artists (#takedown) to white supremacist trolls (The Internet’s Most Trolled Cartoonist) to predatory cults (Why Los Angeles is Scientology’s perfect city) and nasty tech bros (Octane Render: Cartoonists talk about A.I. art).

I’m working on graphic novels called Sciensatics (about cultists) and Free Money, Please (about wealth and passive income).
