No, really, I’m a writer

My day job at the moment is animating on the second series of Dogstar! The same trailer, in Japanese: I worked on the original series a few years back. As Australian kids TV goes, it’s pretty shit-hot (this means “good”). So Michael V (my deskmate) and I would amuse ourselves by coming up with ideas [...]

Anti-Procrasto Week

This week is a big week: it’s ANTI-PROCRASTO WEEK. My workload lightens up a bit this week so I’m setting myself some tasks to take care of, the stuff that gets pushed back when I’m being paid to draw talking penises or animate moustache demons. — 1. Precinct scripts We now have three scripts at [...]

“Beggar hand”

I’m animating freelance on one episode of an animated TV series. The way this works is that I receive an allocation of shots to animate, and refer to the storyboards for a guide as to how I go about it. The board artist on this episode is lazy. The drawings are good (very good! better [...]

Take me to the pilot

Happy new year! Happy Oshtraya Day! I realised I’ve been lucky enough to work on a lot of animated TV pilots lately, so I thought I’d write a bit about how they’ve worked and what happened with them. When I don’t name names it’s because the work isn’t out in public yet and confidentiality applies. [...]

Cop Action Video, + Rove

As of today, I’m the director of Cop Action Video, Pty Ltd (ACN 134 271 042), the production company for The Precinct. So that’s nice. Also, I worked at BigKidz on a little cartoon for Rove Live, on Channel 10. Someone has kindly popped it on YouTube… OK for a rush job!

A little more about MIPCOM why not?

I’m currently in Toronto, the city with many nicknames. They call it T.O. They call it T-Dawg. They call it T-Ball. I just call it “the city with delicious hot dogs on every street corner”, and bless them for that. Would probably be better to wait til I can get some pics up or whatever, [...]

It’s just business

It’s been an interesting month! Our second travel grant from Film Victoria came through (International Market Attendance), so Woody the Producer and I are attending the MIPCOM film/television market in Cannes to spruik The Precinct, among other projects. I’ve never been to a non-English-speaking country OR a five day networking frenzy, so this should be [...]

Comic Book Funny, episode #3

Self-indulgence is the watchword in with BEN HUTCHINGS AND DAVID BLUMENSTEIN Episode #3: Look At What You See http://www.nakedfella.com/radio/comics_episode03.mp3 In this hour-long slice of cartoonist overkill, we report on how the Comic Book Funny events at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival went, and present chunky excerpts of Week 2′s discussion, featuring Benno, Glenn Smith and [...]

Six months later…

… he updates his blog again. Since I last posted, I’ve finished a lot of things, notably The Bedroom Philosopher‘s music video. The Happiest Boy was done in September and has aired on Rage and Channel V. See it here. Nakedfella Comics #9 is my brand new 56-page comic book, self-published as always. Launched at [...]
